Modern facilities at the Teruel Airport in Spain |
Platforma Aeroportuaria-Teruel (PLATA) is built on the old Caudé aerodrome, which was used during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). This site was used historically for military aeronautical activities because of its exceptional climate conditions, location and low density of air traffic.
Spain's Teruel Airport is located in the southern part of the Region of Aragón, close to the town of Teruel, with its 35,000 residents. It is an ideal location, less than 2 hours away by air from the major European cities and 2.5 hours away by road and rail from Spain’s main economic centres.
The City of Teruel is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for is architecture. Near Toulouse, Teruel is located between the largest cities in Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza and Bilbao.

The airport features an excellent climate, dry and sunny with 242 days of sunshine each year. The dry climate makes it suitable for long-term storage of aircraft. It features a dramatic backdrop of mountains in the distance.
Runway 18/36 is 9,268 meters in length
It functions as an industrial-aeronautical facility, and with 300 hectares for airport developent, it is the largest MRO platform in Europe, along with space for longer parking of at least 250 airliners.
It was constructed as a storage and recycling facility for airliners. It also supports maintenance and servicing operations. Airliners in storage have included aircraft manufactured by Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier and other companies.
PLATA is owned by a Consortium formed by the Government of Aragon and the Teruel City Council. It is designed to be an open platform in a strategic location where aeronautical companies around the world could base their operations in a very competitive conditions.
The airport is home to a number of companies, including Habcock Aviation, PLD Space, BP Oil Spain, Pulsar Space, TARMAC Aerospace, and others..
